On June 18th, I had the incredible experience of receiving not one but two Governor's Proclamations for BaBEC's advocacy work on Fire Island. While we've seen love and support from off-island organizations, the road to change isn't smooth in our own backyard. Why? We're shaking things up, taking no shortcuts in advocating for Black and transgender communities. We are the future of Fire Island, and we're here to stay.
